Expanded Art Ideas, Artists Space's arts in education program, supports both mainstream and special education students in New York City’s public schools. The program helps students to develop their own artistic voices and use their creative capacities by providing skills in communication, documentation, and public presentation.
EAI offers five core programs—BRIDGE Photography, Art and Literacy: Poetry, Threads of History, Listening to the LES, and ARTstudio—that enrich middle and high school classroom curricula in visual and language arts. Since its inception, the program has aligned with New York State standards for teaching visual art, more recently, with New York City’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts: Visual Arts Benchmarks.
In addition to those central offerings, EAI produces publications and exhibitions of student work, guides students through applications for Scholastic Awards, and entry into specialized arts high schools.
