WAGENCY is a transactional platform and certification program that facilitates the fair remuneration of artists' labor in the nonprofit sector. Supplying artists with digital tools and the necessary collective agency to negotiate W.A.G.E. fees or withhold content when not paid them, WAGENCY is how we propose to organize an unpaid workforce in an unregulated field.
Amelia Bande is a Brooklyn-based writer and performer from Chile. Her work has been shown at Artists Space, The Poetry Project, Storm King Arts Center, MoMA Library, and more. She has been an artist in residence at The Shandaken Project and Yaddo. Her chapbook The Clothes We Wear was published by Belladonna in 2017.
Mariana Valencia, is a dance artist based in Brooklyn, New York where she has held residencies at Chez Bushwick (2013), New York Live Arts Studio Series (2013-14), ISSUE Project Room (2015) and Brooklyn Arts Exchange (2016-18). In 2018, she received a Bessie Award recipient for Outstanding Breakthrough Choreographer.
Keijaun Thomas creates live performances & multimedia installations that oscillate between movement & materials, incorporating visual language that can be read, observed, & repeated within spatial, temporal, & sensorial environments. Her work investigates the histories, symbols, & images that construct notions of Black identity within Black personhood.
An artist and writer based in New York, Malik Gaines has performed and exhibited extensively with the group My Barbarian, and is assistant professor of Performance Studies in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. His book Black Performance on the Outskirts of the Left: A History of the Impossible was published by NYU Press in 2017.
Alexandro Segade’s multimedia science fiction performances exploring queer futurity have been presented at REDCAT and LAXART, Los Angeles; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; Time-Based Arts Festival, Portland, Oregon; and Movement Research at the Judson Church and Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Bard College, New York. Since 2001, Segade has worked in the collective My Barbarian, and is co-chair of the Film/Video department at Bard College’s Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts.
