Calling all artists!
Do you live in the moment but wish you could find ways to be better prepared - financially, professionally, creatively? Artists Space is proud to launch a new series of workshops and opportunities that will provide a broad range of survival skills for the practicing artist. The season begins with three workshops, and will continue through July 2004 with sessions that cover copyright issues, negotiation skills, letters of agreement and contracts, marketing, portfolio and packet preparation, fundraising and generally, how to get your foot in the seeemingly closed door of the art world. All workshops are free! (but you have to sign up in advance as places are limited.)

Sharon Gold is an American artist and associate professor of painting at Syracuse University. Gold's artwork has been installed at MoMA PS1, Dia Art Foundation, Carnegie Mellon University, Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, Everson Museum of Art, and Princeton University Art Museum. Gold received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and wrote for Re-View Magazine, M/E/A/N/I/N/G/S, and Artforum. Her artwork spans across minimalism, monochromatic abstraction, geometric abstraction, and representational painting and is conceptually informed by structuralism, existential formalism, and feminist theory.

Seth Kelly was born in Memphis in 1972 and graduated from Central High School. He is the son of J.D. Kelly, who was a prominent artist and teacher in Memphis from the late 70's until his death in 1988. For the past 20 years Seth has been a practicing artist living in New York City.
