San Francisco-based Rigo 01 finds his inspiration on the street, occasionally adding his own public works directly into the cityscape: two-dimensional monuments to the things, ideas, and sometimes individual overlooked in the evolution of modern spaces. In Making Made in Taiwan, an ongoing series of paintings born out of residency projects in Taichung, Taiwan, and Göteborg, Sweden, Rigo 01 addresses the superficiality of the tourist painting and the expertise of the artist, offering a composite city in transition, where perspective and memory are entirely constructed, and understanding of that place unreliable. Rigo 01 will show three large-scale paintings in his first New York solo show.
