Architecture & Design Project Series:
Flux Room

September 14 – October 23, 2004

This is the first U.S. presentation of New York architects Reiser + Umemoto’s Flux Room, a flexible space modulation machine designed to register the changing effects of magnetic fields. Approximately 4000 magnetic needles suspended within an enclosed space are triggered to simulate visual effects resembling wind movement or the undulating synchronicity of schools of fish. Flux Room renders formerly immaterial effects visible and stimulate thought about different approaches to the design, perception, and shaping of space.
