Artists Space

Lise Soskolne

October 14 – November 6, 1999

Project Space 2

Soskolne likens the act of looking at painting to watching film, and her large paintings address this conflation of spectacle and practice. Her work references films that are in themselves a comment on film theory and practice, such as Hitchcock’s Rope, the films of Chantal Ackerman, or Soskolne’s own filmic creations.

Selected for exhibition by Artists Space Curator Jenelle Porter.

Three large, monotone paintings, each hung on its own white wall. A protruding white wall with a blue canvas and white text in French partially obscures a black canvas with white text. Perpendicular to that is a red canvas.
